The Champenois and Saint-Vincent

Filed in: Champagne | 0

Champagne and traditions:

Emile Moreau describes the Saint-Vincent banquet at the time. Formerly, it took place the day after a magical evening for the people of Champagne. This evening combined the sound of bells, bonfires, cannon fireworks, gunshots. Violinists also accompanied the parade. Of course, the tasting of the new wine was sublimated.

Today:

The typical program of the feast of St. Vincent today is somewhat different. The Fraternity is usually organized on January 22 (feast of the saint), but sometimes on Saturday or Sunday for convenience.

Each Champagne winegrower carefully keeps the Saint Vincent stick for a year. We are waiting our turn to take care of it on the Claude PERRARD farm.

Celebration:

Despite the often intense cold at this time of year, the Fraternity always walks towards the church. We start the hostilities with a fanfare following the Saint-Vincent stick. We unfold the banners representing all our brotherhoods present during this inauguration.

Behind the leading procession, the participants dress in traditional costumes. They carry two stretchers decorated with flowers, leaves, period tools and the wine barrel. We give this wine to the priest for mass. The wine and the brioche will be blessed during mass and distributed to the confreres.

First, we usually start from the residence of the winegrower who kept the sticks of Saint-Vincent for the past year. We then stop at the church to listen to mass.

s the blessings, the president of the Brotherhood takes some wine from the barrel and pours it into the Grail. Then, we continue to the village hall where the president takes stock of the situation of the Champagne sector.

Then we award diplomas to the winners of the professional competitions in Champenois.

We then celebrate the event with our Champagnes. It is also an opportunity to take advantage of a moment of sharing with colleagues and friends.

Finally, a banquet prolongs the day, a dance evening and its various Champagne celebrations. Champagne is flowing there!

We look forward to these holidays at Bar-sur-Aube, in the presence of the priests of the region. We will take in heart the different traditional songs. The Champagne Claude PERRARD and their colleagues from Rouvres-les-vignes take part. Members of the General Syndicate of Winegrowers (SGV) and of the Interprofessional Committee for Champagne Wines (CIVC) also.

The winegrowers of Rouvres-les-Vignes also celebrate the event at the municipal level.

The state of health linked to covid-19 will not allow us to celebrate this event as it should this year 2021. We hope to be able to resume this tradition again next year.
